Artist Biography

The Full Story

Cocoa is an independent artist with more than fourteen years of creative practice. Her works are primarily created with oil, acrylic, and digital media. She is especially drawn to abstract expression, believing that abstraction can more truthfully convey emotion, passion, and the inner spirit.

Cocoa began learning painting at the age of sixteen. Through art, she gained confidence and gradually developed a deep passion for creative expression. Although she later studied Advertising in college and worked in the IT industry for nearly a decade — taking on roles in marketing research, website editing, marketing planning, and sales — her desire for a more meaningful creative path continued to grow.

Eventually, she chose to leave the business world and study abroad in the United States. Living between cultures broadened her perspective and deeply transformed her understanding of life, identity, and creativity.

After completing continuing education in Fine Arts at CAFA, Cocoa began her artistic journey in earnest. For many years, she searched for a visual language that truly belonged to her. A decisive turning point came when she encountered a painting by Mark Rothko at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. That unforgettable “aha” moment awakened her creativity and led her fully into abstract painting.

Working independently, Cocoa continued to explore contemporary artistic expression through experimentation and self-directed study. She worked with oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, and digital media before gradually gravitating toward pouring techniques in acrylic and oil. She was drawn to their fluidity, unpredictability, and emotional freedom. As pigments moved across the canvas, painting became both tranquil and liberating — a process of rediscovery and inner expansion.

Meditation is central to Cocoa’s creative practice. She often meditates outdoors, connecting with nature, light, and the energies of the universe. Each painting begins from this inner state. Through meditation, intuition, and layered visual exploration, she gradually transforms unseen emotions and spiritual impressions into color, movement, and form.

During creation, Cocoa often feels accompanied by her muse. Some paintings emerge with such unexpected beauty that she feels they were not created by her alone, but guided by the Spirit. For her, art is a labor of passion and a way of connecting with God , the universe, and nature.

Cocoa’s works often express the tranquil, refreshing, and healing power of the cosmos. Through abstract forms and flowing color, she seeks to bring the unseen world into visual expression — offering viewers a sense of self-awareness, healing, beauty, love, and hope.
